So let’s take a look at the historical record from 1903 and 1904. The Wright Brothers were pretty big news. Obviously all those other, previous inventors of powered flight must have been pretty angry, right? So where are the newspaper stories? The testimonials? The sputtering outrage? The photographs?
Hint: there ain’t any.
The answer is simple: the Wright Brothers were, in fact, the first to demonstrate controlled, powered, heavier than air flight (in a plane that somebody could actually ride in….).
