My Company switch from the 60 hour 7 day to the 70 hour 8 day. I have been working almost that 70 hours in 5 days. It seems to be dangerous. I have a hard time staying awake now. Can anyone tell me where I can find more info about this? I have already read the D.O.T. book on this.

You cannot log sleeper time in a day cab.
I’m not currently up to date on hours of service rules anymore, because I’m not actively using my CDL right now. If I’m remembering correctly though, and please tell me if I’m wrong, that 70 hours is on duty time. If you are DRIVING the whole 70 hours, you are in violation of HOS rules, you are only allowed to drive 11 of those 14 hours.
On a personal level, and this is just my opinion:
If you can’t stay awake, pull off and take a cat nap. It’s hard without a sleeper, I know, but think of the tragedy and possible loss of life and property you would cause if you fell asleep at the wheel. Pick a spot, recline your seat, and snooze. If your company doesn’t like it, tell them to go to hell and find a new one to drive for. Its easier for a safe CDL driver to find a new job than it is for a company to replace them these days. The company that trained me and gave me my first driving job stressed safety over anything.

Your 70 hours on-duty in a 5-day period is legal, but pushing the limits. If you’re logging 70 hours driving in 5 days, then you’re way over the limit.
Does your company dispatch trucks 7 days a week? If they do, then you are bound by the 70 in 8 day rulings… If they don’t dispatch trucks 7 days a week.. then they are bound by the 60 hours in 7 days….
Everybody has pretty much covered everything… but I want to touch on a couple of items….
If you take a nap during the day… log it as on-duty, not driving. You don’t have a sleeper, so line 2 is no use to you. You are still responsible for that truck and you will still be in the truck as well. Take your nap in the passengers seat too!!! If you are behind the wheel… some officer who is a stickler for the rules could site you for a log violation because you are behind the wheel of the truck. I know.. it sounds nit-picky, but I have seen it done.
