Frequently Asked Question:

Safety concerning Forklifts?

Where I work one of the stand up forklifts had the strobe light knocked off. Is it required by OSHA in PA to have the strobe light put back on? The lift does have a alarm but only while you are traveling backwards.

Answer by UCANTCME
I found this for general forklift guidelines from OSHA.

Make every effort to alert workers when a forklift is nearby. Use horns, audible backup alarms, and flashing lights to warn workers and other forklift operators in the area.

Flashing lights are especially important in areas where the ambient noise level is high.

FAQ:

I want to know the operating system for LPG Gas operated forklifts?

Answer by Propane Guy
I will assume you understand how a gasoline engine operates and want to know differences on a propane powered engine…

The propane is stored as a liquid. The first place the liquid propane goes is through a “lockoff” or sometimes a filter/lockoff. This is an engine vacuum operated device that senses when the engine is turning over. It allows the lockoff to open and fuel to flow to the rest of the system. If there is no engine vacuum it stops the flow of fuel 100%.
From there the liquid propane runs to a converter. This is either an air heated device, bolted to the exhaust of the engine, or a liquid heated device plumbed into the cooling system of the engine. This takes the heat of the engine and boils the propane so it becomes a vapour. From there the propane vapour travels to the mixer. This is the gasoline equivelant to a carburetor. A mixer operates similarly to a carburetor, by combining the air fuel mixture and metering it to the engine depending on load demand. That’s a real quick description of the physical differences.

Propane burns slower than gasoline, so for optimum performance the ignition distributor should be “recurved”. If you really want to do it right, you also change the camshaft to allow for the different burn rate of the fuel. If this is done you will have zero power loss over what the engine produced on gasoline. Hope this helps!

Do flashing lights on forklifts make them safer for pedestrians?

Answer by matthewdmcgraw
I am in the military and we have safety lights on a lot of vehicles and in my opinion, yes it makes them safer. Especially for a fork lift due to the fact that sometimes the driver cannot see in front of his load so he/she must drive backwards and going around a blind corner with a light someone else will know that it is coming and stop.

Frequently Asked Question:

Is it the floor versus road, or the different wheels, or the way the weight is dispersed, or the breaks, or something else?

Answer by Working girl
Because of the weight. Forklifts have more weight in the rear. All forklifts have counterweight in the back. As to cars, the engine is in the front. The momentum is not there with a car.
