This might not be right but, If theres any static build up while washing the cable grounds it.
I believe it is because of the fiberglass used in the various parts of your truck. While they wash it the fiberglass could build up static electricity and discharge a spark, potentially starting a fire.
i own 34 trucks and have a large drive through truck wash,however we don’t ground our vehicles whilst they are being washed but i asked my installer about this and he say’s they are being over cautious,the reason for it though is that the brushes are made of nylon and can create a build up of static electricity which can occasionly give the driver a shock when touching the door handle or similar,this whilst being unpleasant is not harmful.

Same for insurance, somebody read somewhere that washing a truck causes static electricity, so they made it a requirement to ground the truck. I’ve been driving trucks for over 25 years and have never heard of or seen such a thing.
