you would basicly have to take the body off of the 1500 series, and already have a 2500 series frame with the apropriet drivetrain, suspension, ect. on it

Usually the biggest difference is in the rear springs and rear axle. 2500 trucks have full-floating rear axles, so you would have to swap in the rear axle from a 2500. The springs will likely be different or at least more have duty so you would want to swap those too. The front brakes may be more heavy duty so you might want to swap them too. Since 2500s usually have 8 lug wheels and 1500 have 5 or 6 lugs you will want to switch the front over to 8 lugs along with the brakes and hardware from the 2500.
2500 models often have heavy duty cooling and power steering and transmission coolers. Those can be added fairly cheaply. The conversion is mainly labor intensive and not really expensive if you find a junkyard donor truck. You have a lot of big heavy parts to swap.

If it were as simple as that, Ford, GM and Chrysler would make one model pick-up, and the dealer would slap in whatever springs were needed. If you have a half-ton, and for some reason think you need a 3/4 ton, trade it in. The dealer will be happy to tell you the dollar difference.
