2) Put salt on your driveway. Or, if you have a gravel driveway, you can use sand, dirt or ash for traction.

As for driving with snow chains, I know there are many places (including here in Michigan) that make using snow chains illegal except in the mountains. Granted, it’s not uncommon to get 2 feet of snow in one snowstorm here, but I’d rather have to drive slower without chains, than having the roads tore up from people who leave their chains on.
