Well, a diesel engine is fairly versatile when it comes to what it can burn, they can burn used cooking oil. However, because heavy oil has a much Higherr viscosity then diesel, I think it would be difficult to get into the engine because the injectors clogging constantly, the fuel pump would also have a hard time moving it. But as far as burning the heavy oil itself, as long as they could get it to ignite then they should beall rightt. There are a few things to consider, how much energy does a set amount of heavy oil give incomparisonn to the sameamountt of diesel. If it gives more energy the diesel, that could account for the broken cranks because of the unintended strain that is being put on them. I don’t know a whole lot more then that about heavy oil, but if it’s contaminated with sand or other small particles, it could cause friction in the engine which could also bend cranks.
