I have a 1981 chevy malibu and the car backfires when i give it a lot of gas when im driving it. so under a heavy load. and it also idles low in gear but i idled it up a little and it seems better, it has a 350 bored over 60, and new comp cam, HEI distributer, wires, plugs are all new andgapedd at .045. the timing is zerodegreese,and on the timing tab i cant read anything on it and half of the words are off so i cant Find top dead center. it has 3″ dual exhaust flowmaster super 44 series.

If you can’t read the timing marks, there’s little chance of getting it right. If it’s backfiring through the exhaust, I’d guess the timing is late. Get the timing marks defined or replace the timing gear cover so you have something you can read.
