The PURPOSE of diesel is to use diesel and NOT use gasoline.

Diesel pistons have too much compression and no spark plug. So no.

It is NOT like running alcohol in gasoline engine, etc.

Yes there is such an engine. I was in the US Army in the 1960′s. The 2 1/2 ton trucks we had were powered by a Continental multifuel engine. They ran on Diesel fuel primarily, but could run on gasoline or kerosene, or any mixture of the three if needed to. We were told only to keep an eye on water temps, since gasoline burns hotter than diesel.

And yes I do know the extreme difference between compressions of piston diesel engines and gas engines.

It appears that the gas/diesel rotary did not rely on compression timed injection to ignite the diesel but rather a sparkplug based ignition.

The efficiency and or usefulness of this design was never appreciated by any major investors and died a slow and quiet death.

The M-1 Abrahms, with its turbine engine, can take just about any fuel, from diesel to gasoline. Makes no difference to the turbine.

However, strictly speaking, you can’t “convert” a diesel engine to run on gasoline, without switching the pistons and the heads completely so that you have spark plugs again to ignite the gasoline, and decrease the compression.

There is a difference between a multi-fuel engine vs. a diesel engine that can be converted to gasoline. A company called Orbital has a “FlexDI” system that has a special injector and ignition system that claims to allow an engine to run on almost ANY liquid or gaseous fuel. However, while they did say their engine can run on diesel, they are using diesel fuel in spark-ignition mode, not the tradition compression-ignition mode that diesel engine is known for.

So to answer your original question… You can’t convert a disel engine to a gasoline engine without reinventing the whole engine. A “multi-fuel” engine must be designed as a multi-fuel engine to start with. There’s no conversion kit that’ll turn a diesel engine into a multi-fuel engine.
