Sounds more like your rod and main bearings are shot. You can pull the engine and forklift it to a mechanic but the repairs will cost more than $ 900. Sounds like the engine is not worth fixing.

Firstly, the oil pump screen can easily be changed by you as it is only a matter of dropping the oil pan and then replacing the screen.

Secondly, no vehicle that I know of has “guides” for the timing chain. The chain (if your vehicle in fact has a chain and not a belt) runs around the cam and crank sprockets and requires no guide. If the timing chain breaks the engine will seize and will not move another inch.

I guess my point is get another opinion from another mechanic because clearly that one didn’t know what he is talking about.

PLEASE!!!!!! What year, make, model, engine size, and country of Origin????? Sludge is the total enemy of ALL engines. Now you understand why quicky lubes only charge $ 20 for oil changes. You can de-sludge this engine, most likely, with time and solvent. Remove the oil pan and valve covers. Use a toothbrush and some butyl cello-solve. Maybe even a putty knife or similar. Oil passageways need high pressure air.to clean out. NEVER use regular dino oil again. See what it does??? Use only oils that are labeled with YOUR car-makers name printed on it!!!!! Bulk oil and off brand oil causes damage!!! SEE???

You don’t need to pull the engine out….just take off the oil pan, (thats on the bottom of the engine), clean all the sludge and stuff out.
with the pan off, the oil pump will be visible..there is a tube on the pump with a pickup at the bottom, clean the screen over the opening to the pickup, replace the pan and pan gasket….
