I’m a aerial lift tech at EQUIPMENT DEPOT, and we would be more than happy to repair it. It could be a faulty charging system that led to the battery going bad. But if the battery does have water in it and your not running it too long at a time, than it is safe to jump and run it till he comes around to having it repaired.

Just to check put a meter on it while running to make sure it is charging, but it sounds like just a bad battery. If so, get a new one. The arcing isn’t really safe, you can short out the alternator which is more than a battery. You can go get a cheap battery for under $ 80 bucks almost anywhere.

P.S. if your boss won’t even pony up for that what else is not being fixed properly?

you probably have a bad battery or a drain somewhere but you can jump start your bad battery as many times as you want. as long as it offers a little buffering it will be fine. you will only make it worse probably but if its bad any ways….. its true that the gases released when charging/discharging are very easy to ignite so be careful. i used to jump start/force charge bad batteries with a stick welder and never had an issue except the explosive gases. you should fix it of course.
