I’ve worked construction for 40 years and know that sore feet are a real pain in the sole. An orthotic for the boots will help a lot, as to the boots themselves, the brand should fit his foot comfortably and support his weight. The oil and grease that he works in will wear out any boot quickly, use a good grade of leather sealer on the boots and get two pair and alternate their use this will more than double the life span of the boots.
My personal favorites are Red Wing, I’ve tried other brands but they don’t seem to last as long. I worked in shipyards with oil, grease and sandblast dirt on a daily basis, if I could get 9 months out of a pair, I was doing great.
