Why does my car die when I turn my lights on?
OK heres the deal. I turn my truck on fine. Its running, I go to turn my lights on and BOOM…car dies. Wont turn over or anything. All lights and everything is dead no juice. If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes it starts right back up! WTF?! Turn lights on and it happens again. Also once in a great while while im driving it DOWN THE ROAD it will completely kill again on me and have to wait to start it. Also this does not happen ALL the time…it will do it like 3 times a week and then go 3 weeks without it happening. PLEASE HELP!!!!
I have changed the clamps to the battery post recently. Also I don’t think it would be the altenator because the car starts fine….its just when the lights come on. And this has been happening for a while now and I dont think the battery would last that long!

Sounds like there’s a short in your wiring some place. It might be the alternator but highly unlikely. Unlikely that it’s a dead cell in the battery too.
If not a short, turning the lights on could be overloading a circuit. The 10-15 minute wait is the time it takes for it to reset. Have a mechanic track down the problem.
Try changing the battery cables. If they are cracked from inside they will work sometimes, other times they wont.
Your alternator is not working. The battery has enough power to start the truck, but not enough when the lights are turned on. Start the truck and take a long screw driver, hold it about 1 inch over the center of the alternator, If the alternator is working, the screwdriver will be pulled to it like a magnet. A new alternator runs around $ 180.00
