You’re dreaming. First off, a 2-bolt main block is not the best selection for that kind of power. You should be looking for a 4-bolt main with a forged crank. In a 6000 lb truck, it’s going to be underwhelming. I’d be looking at a big block to move something like that.

With the stock 1980 smogger heads, 400hp isn’t gonna happen. Even if they’re ported. You’re basically putting a big cam into a smog 350 and putting a slightly better carb on it. If it’s a 2-bolt main 350 it probably doesn’t have performance heads. Two-bolt main blocks are tough despite what people think, but you’ll be looking at 230-250hp tops with those heads and that combo. Get used Vortecs for like $ 400 and you could meet your power goals if the rest is built right.

But I agree with the other guy, I’d go with a big block. For off-roading and moving a very heavy vehicle, a built 350 would be inferior to a mild 454. You want low end torque not top end HP.

If you are going to mess with your 350, install a pair of factory 062 casting number vortec heads and forget it. Your cam selection is TOTALLY not only out of freaking line, but that cam is one of the highest volume mega mass produced ‘Gang’ ground POS cams ever conceived of. Not to mention the fact that it is OVER a 30 year old design/grind. Furthermore, for what you are trying to accomplish, the useable RPM range of that cam is anything but useful in your vehicle below about 3500 RPM.

If you MUST mess with a hydraulic cam, try my little UltraDyne 272/276 H8 instead. It will chew up that Comp cam anytime/anywhere. And while you are at it, opt for a 4/7 firing order swap. With a Vortec head, it’ll make well over 400 HP, and it will pull from idle to 6,000. Put a purpose built QuadraJet on it and you’ll love it to death. I’ll even give you a “love it or I’ll refund you” guarantee on your cam. You won’t find that from any other cam source anywhere. (In your mind you should be telling yourself that there is a BIG reason for that.)

You can run a 1.6 ratio rocker on the intake side only. It’ll just hurt vacuume and bottom end on the exhaust side which you’ll never make up on the top end. Keep a single 3 inch to 3.5 inch exhaust on there and it will out power and out torque a dual exhaust frm idle to 7,000. The slower the engine spins, the more the single exhaust will shine for you. I would keep a single 3 inch Flowmaster on there myself. It’s good for over 360 HP.

In all seriousness, you will accomplish so much more building a big block with an Oval port head and small cam.
