I own a 2002 GMC sonoma- 4cylinder, biofuel, 2 wheel drive, automatic, pick up truck. For the past few week i’ve heard a cluncking noise from in under the truck when it shift gear around 30-50 mile hour. The clunck got worst up untill yestorday when i was driving all of a sudden I heard a super loud boom, then the sound of gear grinding, then after that engine roared so i let off the gas, and then i heard a high pitch winding noise. I pulled off the road stop the truck. The winding noise continued even while the truck was in park. I lost R,D,3,2 but 1st gear still worked. So i was wander what do you believe went wrong with the transmisson. I believe it the Clutch, bind or belts in the transmisson.

Could be any of those… the only way to know is pull the trans… look at the clutch, internal parts etc. If there was that much noise… I’d bet it will fall apart coming out. But regardless, it sounds nasty… and unfortunately, expensive. Good Luck!
