I am looking for ideas (working ideas). I want to hook two v-8 gas engines together to one transmission and I want to use it for everyday use too. The problem is I am having truoble coming up with a way to link the two engine together. There’s no aftermarket ready made part that I can find that will do this. I am still looking on tractor pull forums and machinery forums, but no luck yet. I could build one and I am looking for a working design. if anybody out there has a “pliable” ,meaning something that actually could work, then an answer would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure what you are doing with this, but what I have seen on pulling tractors is a short, splined shaft that connects the flywheel of one engine to the harmonic balancer of the other engine. Keep in mind that on most of those pulling tractors, they don’t run water pumps, therfore, the engines are very close to one another. From the way I read your question, you are going to be using water pumps, so you need to have a little distance between your engines. I would say you would just need to make a couple of flanges, one for the rear of the front engine, one for the front of the rear engine, and connect them with a short driveshaft with a good, tough u-joint at each end. Or, if you can get everything aligned perfectly, you could use a chain coupler on a couple of short shafts.

do you want these engines side by side or back to back?… the biggest problem is the drive shift…..even then there would have to be a special trans made to handle that kind of force..the expense would be way up there. I think it would be more benefit to wreck our brain on something that would be a better help to more people…….but if this is what you want I’m sure we can come up with something…the world is full of smart people……….
