I have worked in a few different shops in the construction world and we always used a straight 30w drive train oil in all the Caterpillar Transmissions and this new company I work at seems to think they can put this chevron thf 1000 in everything, but I seem to think its lazy and trying to cut costs that will end up hurting them…..I called the Supplier to get the weight of the oil and they said its a 5w 20…..It does say it meets cat t-02 fluid requirements, but cat doesn’t even use the term t-02 anymore, they upgraded it to t0-4 long ago……We work mainly in the summer where I live where it is easily 90-110 everyday in the summer, and it seems using the cat recommended 30w drive train oil is the way to go other than a 5w 20! I have noticed some burned up tranny oils, and they would always just change the filter when the filter light comes on……I know they are long overdue, but it could be from running like crazy in hot temps with a 20w instead of a 30w drive train oil…….I’m in the mix right now trying to get this all fixed and trying to go with the best recommended oils for this company…..They have grown alot and have a bunch more equipment and I think its time to get it right, we have too…….To put it in simple words, all they have in bulk is chevron delo 15/40 and this chevron thf 1000…..For anyone that has ever been a oiler for a construction company, we all know the basics of oils that go in to the equipment…..The Company needs 10w Hyd Oil, 30w Drive Train Oil, 50w gear Oil, 85-140 Gear Oil, and your Basic 15/40 along with Coolant and Grease and you good to go with all kinds of equipment, but they insist its easier doing it with 2 tanks of bulk 15/40 and thf 1000 and 5 gallon buckets of the other oils…..What do you think?
