I am looking for any information about how the tractor part of a tractor-trailer has to be plugged into an electrical outlet to keep the oil pan heated. Most importantly I am trying to figure out how much kwh usage this takes on average. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Most tractors use a coolant heater. It is mounted in a coolant hose and circulates heated coolant through the block.
There are some oil pan heaters available, either as a heating pad type that goes on the bottom of the pan or on that inserts through the dipstick.
Most coolant heaters are between 750 and 1200 Watts. So depending on electric rates in your area, they could cost about 10 -20 cents per hour to operate.
The good news is that the newer diesels work better in the cold than the older ones, and don’t always need to be plugged in.

From what I understand the only reason you keep them plugged in in the winter is to keep the glow plugs warm, it doesnt keep the oil warm.. thats not important, it just makes the air warm in the intake so when you go to start it it will fire up. Most new diesels are more efficient in that way where you dont need to plug em in, but the old ones you prob should
